MXF Testing Services
Tests free of charge
File Self Tests
You can download our MXF Analyser Professional software and request a 7-day trial license to validate your mxf files.
Decoder Self Tests
You can download IRT-generated reference files and sample files that were generated by products of different vendors in order to test if your MXF decoder is able to sucessfully read the ones that fit its specification (e.g. operational pattern and essence containers).
MXF File Analysis & Certification (based on a contract)
Are you looking for a way to ensure that your MXF files are conform to the MXF profiles of the public German broadcasters of ARD, ZDF, ORF and ARTE? We have the solution for you! Just send us your files, and we analyse their conformity for you. Validated files earn an according IRT-certificate. Detailed information can be found here.
Tests on request (based on a contract)
The MXF tests conducted by IRT are split into the following four complementary classes:
MXF File Testing
In the frame of MXF file testing, IRT carries out extensive testing, applying its MXF Analyser software and other tools. This includes in-depth analyzing of the KLV layer, the partition multiplex, the metadata (structural and descriptive), Index Tables and Essence Containers of the MXF files. Please use the file upload page in order to send us files for testing.
MXF Encoder Testing
In the frame of MXF encoder testing, the product under test is set up at IRT's MXF Test Center facilities. The encoder is used to encode specifically designed test sequences (Essence and, possibly, Descriptive Metadata) into MXF. The encoded files are analyzed for standard compliance, correct encoding, correct compression system implementation, signal transparency, audio-video delay, time code implementation and consistency of metadata.
MXF Decoder Testing
In the frame of MXF decoder testing, the product under test is set up at IRT's MXF Test Center facilities. Specifically designed MXF test files (Essence and contained Descriptive Metadata) are loaded into the product under test and exported via the appropriate interfaces. The exported streams are analyzed for standard compliance, correct decoding, correct compression system implementation, signal transparency, audio-video delay, time code implementation and the consistency of metadata.
The completeness and robustness of the MXF decoder implementation are tested by loading a collection of MXF files into the product which exercise options of the MXF specification (such as Partition multiplex, Index Table distribution, RIP, etc.), and which are part of the specification of the MXF decoder (Operational Pattern, Essence Containers). The MXF decoder is also subjected to MXF files which lie outside its specification, or which contain specific errors in order to determine the error resilience of the implementation.
MXF Product Testing
MXF Encoder/Decoder Testing comprises both MXF Encoder Testing and MXF Decoder Testing as well as other MXF related functionality (such as partial file copy or operational pattern conversion) depending on the funtionalities that the product implements.
Workshops and Plug-Fests
IRT has carried out implementation and interoperability tests in cooperation with user user-driven organisations such as the EBU. IRT offers the technical capabilities and infrastructure for such tests.
